About Tromsø Northern Lights Holidays

About This Guide

Last updated: October 2026

Tromsø Northern Lights Holidays is an independent visitor guide to planning a northern lights holiday in Tromsø, in northern Norway. It covers how many nights to stay, which month to go, where to sleep, what the evening tours cost and which of them keep working over several nights, and how Tromsø compares with Lapland. We do not run tours, sell holidays or take bookings.

Where the facts come from

  • Tours, prices, guarantees and ages: the GetYourGuide listings, read in US dollars and dated on every page with the month we read them.
  • Season, polar night, activity hours and booking advice: Visit Tromsø, the region’s tourist board.
  • Temperatures: yr.no, the weather service of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and NRK.
  • Airport and transport: Visit Tromsø and Best Arctic, which runs the Airport Express bus.
  • Hotels and lodges out of town: their own websites, for location, travel time and season.
  • Abisko, Rovaniemi and Alta: the Swedish Tourist Association, the Abisko Scientific Research Station, Finavia, Visit Norway, the Church of Norway and Sorrisniva.
  • The solar cycle: NASA and NOAA, and the Royal Observatory of Belgium’s solar data centre.

We have not stayed at every place we describe, and we say so where it matters. When a listing and an operator’s own site disagree, we give the listing’s terms for what you book and note the difference.

How the site earns money

Tour links and booking calendars on this site go to GetYourGuide. If you book through one of them we may earn a commission, and the price you pay is the same. No hotel or tour company pays to appear here, and the tours we suggest are chosen on what their terms and inclusions are worth over a stay of several nights.
