Small groups and long chases cost more because they can go farther: the cross-border and long-chase tours drive into Finland or Sweden on cloudy nights, which a big coach on a fixed schedule cannot. The guarantee terms are worth more than a few dollars of difference on a stay of several nights.

- Five nights, about $1,300: two small-group chases (about $160 and $210), a reindeer evening (about $230), a lavvo night (about $470) and a whale watching day (about $200).

The rest of the bill
- Airport bus: NOK 125 one way or NOK 200 return for an adult, NOK 80 or 130 for a child aged 4 to 15, card only, about 20 minutes to the centre (Best Arctic, which runs the Airport Express).
- A taxi from the airport: around ten minutes (Visit Tromsø); no fare is published.
- Winter gear: most chases lend a thermal suit; boots, gloves and hats are often not included, so bring them rather than buy in town.
- The hotel and flights: the biggest part of the cost, and the part that depends most on your dates; book them before the tours.
